A typical Level 2 charger fills a mid-size EV battery from near-empty to full in 4-10 hours, which is why it's the default for overnight home charging or a full workday at the office.
DC fast charging
Most modern EVs can go from 10% to 80% in 20-40 minutes on a compatible fast charger. The last 20% is deliberately slower — the car's battery management system throttles the charge rate near full to protect the battery.
Why do fast chargers slow down near 100%?
It's a deliberate safety and longevity measure — pushing high current into a nearly-full battery generates more heat and stress, so the car's battery management system tapers the rate automatically.
